The Book Carriage & Coffee Shop

I’ve always dreamt of having a quaint little bookstore with a Barista serving up artful lattes…dreamy music playing softly in the background. Well, I may not have that store, but I certainly stumbled upon a local couple who does, and I was thrilled to find myself pulling up in front of it! The Book Carriage & Coffee Shop in Roanoke’s historic downtown is what dreams are made of (at least in mine). This brick building has charm written all over it, and the open sign flashed on to tell me I was more than welcome to come in. I opened the door to find books galore, an aroma of coffee hanging in the air and a “Hello” from behind the coffee bar. It was delightful! I made my way through the book shelves, fingers gliding over book spines before finding myself standing in front of the Barista ordering a White Chocolate Mocha along with a cookie from one of the glass jars. I informed her that I would be enjoying the beverage in house so a mug would be my preference. As my drink was being crafted, I walked over to two tables that were in the front of the store. Both displayed Texas books full of history of Dallas, Fort Worth and some of the smaller towns such as Roanoke. I enjoyed flipping through the pages until the Barista let me know my drink was ready. I found not just a humdrum mocha waiting at the bar, but I discovered this red mug setting on a small red plate. The whipped cream was artfully placed on top of the coffee and had a caramel layer on it. It was beautiful. I grabbed my cookie and drink and carefully made my way up the wooden steps where I found a comfy loft awaiting me. I sat in one of the high back chairs and enjoyed my delicious mocha. There was this Texas rugged feel with hardwood floors, wooden beams, exposed air vents, outdoor style lamps lining the wooden beams in the loft. Local art hung on the walls to purchase, and I noticed above the coffee bar was an open setting for musicians. How cool! I ate my toffee/chocolate cookie, enjoyed my delish mocha and made my way downstairs where I found a treasure of a book to purchase! Sure the big chain bookstores have much more inventory, but The Book Carriage & Coffee Shop has charm, a Texas feel, and a Barista who knows how to make one heck of a latte on one of the best machines available…see their website!  What a nostalgic kind of place!

Blue Bonnet Bakery

Follow the red brick road of Camp Bowie to Blue Bonnet Bakery. The minute I pulled in front of this bakery and saw gift bags with tissue bouquets lining the sills of the large windows which were trimmed with a white lace etched border, I was smiling. I didn’t have to open the door to know this bakery was my kind of place. Yes, that was indeed confirmed when my foot stepped onto the black and white checkered floor. The bakery cases were long and full of cookies…lots and lots of cookies! I made my way down to the end that displayed the morning pastries searching for something unique. I pointed to one roll with a crumbled topping and asked what it was, and the woman behind the counter broke into a big smile while raising her eyebrows to indicate I had chosen a favorite. She barely got the words out of her mouth, “Cream Cheese Roll..,” and I had nodded my head yes. I took my time strolling to the other side where the register was, taking in all the goodies along my way…cookies, cupcakes, doughnuts, cakes…not enough time or appetite in the day to experience all this bakery has to offer. Upon paying for my roll and coffee, this gracious employee asked if I would like a cup of ice for my bottled water that I had carried in. I declined but told her that I would be eating my roll in the dining area and would like a fork if one was available. She offered to warm up my roll, put it on a tray and served it up with a fork AND knife. I filled my coffee cup at the coffee station (there’s also juice, milk and water available) with cinnamon coffee and made my way into the adjacent room where country kitchen style tables and chairs were available. I sat down at a long wooden table that was pushed up against a wall that was covered in awards bestowed upon this bakery. As I poked my fork into the warm roll, crumbles (think coffee cake topping) rolled along the side, and the aroma of cinnamon tickled my nose. The roll was scrumptious with the flavors of yeast and cinnamon paired with cream cheese, how could one not devour it? And that I did all the while washing it down with my fresh cup of coffee. The other wall in the dining area had black and white photos which were shot in their kitchen  and framed adding a very classic touch to this vintage feel of a bakery. After finishing my last bite, I returned to the case to take another look as well as browse their gift section of cards, napkins…oh, and there’s another tall case near the window to show off lovely whole cakes and pies. As I sit here typing, I’m wishing for a slice of that fluffy meringue pie I had eyed. As I left, I looked up at a chalkboard hanging in the window and sighed, “Oh no!” The board says that Blue Bonnet Bakery will be relocating down the road. So, if you want to experience this current location, you better head over soon. I guess I have a good reason to visit again…blog about the new location along with a new pastry! Yum!

j.rae's

If you haven't been to Fort Worth lately, well, here's a reason to buckle up and head out...j.rae's! I discovered j.rae's last summer and have visited several times in the past year. It is, without a doubt, one of the best bakeries in the DFW area! This recent visit to j.rae's caught me by surprise when I discovered the once stark but sleek ambience had been hit with pizazz...as in hot pink, green and black. Wow! Black stripes now lined the once white wall behind the dessert showcase. Yet, the three large framed black and white pictures were still in place which depict what j.rae's is all about...Cupcakes, Cookies and Cheesecake. The back wall was now painted a hot pink with small square mirrors outlining the wall and two open door frames were still there to give you a small peek into where the magic of baking takes place.  High-back black leather sofas with green and pink pillows were up against the walls.  This is where employees sit at the decorating station to ice the cookies. I was in the mood for one of those thick cut-out cookies in the shape of something cute and represented summer. I glanced over the flowers, turtles and other shapes, but the sea turtle with green icing and a purple sugar circular swirl hypnotized me! The cookies range from $1.50 to around $5.00; my sea turtle was $3.50. Of course, no trip is complete without the purchase of my favorite, Pink Lemonade cupcake that is like no other ($2.50)! I love to enjoy my treats there in the bakery, so thank goodness for the ultra-chic seating area in front of the large window. I sat on the white leather sofa that had two small mirrored tables on each side, a black square table in the middle, and two nice chairs on each side of the coffee table. The girly petite chandelier still hung above this seating area, and two glittery photo albums now set on the table to show the work that makes up j.rae's.  I took my cookie out of the cellophane bag and bit into the thickness. Mmmm, just as I remembered. Moist, never over-baked or hard, sweet icing and just the right size to leave one completely satisfied! The Pink Lemonade cupcake is hands down THE BEST! I love the other flavors, don't get me wrong, and they are all worth trying, but you just can't go wrong with the tangy, sweet Pink Lemonade for summer. The cupcakes are so perfectly baked with just the right texture and moistness. I once had a friend with me on a j.rae's visit and made her taste a bite of my cupcake (she was dieting and refusing to taste until I broke a piece off) and with one taste, her eyes grew wide, and she let out an, "Oh. My. Gosh!" She quickly agreed that it was the best cupcake she had ever tasted. I have yet to try the cheesecake, but I've heard it does not disappoint.  Also, j.rae's has a chiller for purchasing sodas or water as well as a nice selection of herbal teas next to the chiller. Small napkins are available, but sorry to say, no forks. A baker's rack holds j.rae's logo t-shirts as well as children's aprons you can purchase. Need to pick up a card or birthday candles to add to your cupcake or cheesecake? No problem, you can find a variety of cute supplies at the end of the dessert counter. Also, while enjoying the oh-so-chic bakery, take a look at the cute black and white picture of the owner and her sister as kids posing with their play oven they received on a Christmas morning. The same little oven is setting on a rack below the picture giving the bakery a personal feel and soft touch.  Okay, so this blog is a bit on the lengthy side, but just as I love visiting this bakery, I love talking about it. Can't make it to Fort Worth? Well, you're in luck because you can order online! However, I really discourage this due to the fact that you will miss out on the experience of their fab atmosphere! So, get going...j'rae's is open Monday-Saturday!

Society Bakery

With plenty of media hype including being voted The Ellen Degeneres Show's Top 10 Best Cupcakes, it was time for me to take a little trip to Lower Greenville where Society Bakery calls home. To be real honest, I was a bit cynical over all the press they have received. I would be the judge on whether or not Society Bakery deserves all this attention. I pulled my car along the side street for parking and made my way around the corner of the old brick building where I entered the door of Society Bakery. The bakery is a small space that shares an open-door policy with neighbor Corner Market. One could easily grab a treat from the bakery and walk into the deli for a coffee without ever having to go outside. I knew that I definately wanted to try a Whoopie Pie, so I ordered up the Red Velvet Whoopie and relied on one of the sweet employees to suggest a favorite cupcake flavor for me to try. After a few seconds of thinking she points to Key Lime telling me that it is only available in July. Perfect! I like having a flavor that is limited time only, and Key Lime sounded fitting for a hot summer day. I grabbed my box of goodies and walked outside to sit at a sidewalk table. I didn't feel much like having a coffee, and Society Bakery didn't exactly have indoor seating. My table was shaded, so it wasn't too terribly hot, and without hesitation I opened my bakery box with curiosity as if opening a treasure chest for the first time. I've been told how "valuable" the contents are, but I really needed to see for myself. Society Bakery has a sign posted at the register asking customers not to take pictures, so I had to snap a shot of my sweet "treasures" outside. I chose to taste the Red Velvet Whoopie Pie first. If it tasted half as good as it looked, I would be pleased. I tore off a piece and popped it in my mouth...uh huh...okay...and finally, YUM!! Cream cheese frosting dolloped between two moist cakes offering the most scrumptious combination you could imagine. Light, fluffy and even better than it looked. I have to say, I certainly wanted to let out a "Whoopie!!!" for this Whoopie Pie! After dusting off the crumbs from my fingers (unforunately, there were no forks and napkins), I moved on to the Key Lime cupcake. It was big, a bit lopsided and spilling over, giving it a little muffin top look. I knew it had to be delish after tasting the delectable whoopie pie. Well, one bite of this lime-flavored cupcake proved me right...as well as proving the media blitz right. Yes, this cupcake was moist with just the right balance of sweet and tart. The bar had been raised. Oh, but wait, there's more! The center of this cupcake was hiding treasure of its own...a Key Lime filling oozed out! Are you kidding me? I didn't care who was watching me as I worked every bite of that cupcake in my mouth...fingers covered in Key Lime filling. It didn't matter if it was 10 degrees or 110 degrees outside, my senses were so enthralled in this summertime flavor of a cupcake that I was unaware of anything else. So, does Society Bakery deserve all the media hype? Absolutely. First of all, the treasures I indulged in were off-the-charts delicious! Secondly, the name Society Bakery actually stands for giving back to society, which is what the owner truly believes in. You can visit Society Bakery's website to view the long list of charities they contribute to...without the tax break! Society Bakery, you are definately a treasure chest of great worth! I'll be visiting again and again and again!

Inspirations Tea Room

No, this isn't a blog on tea rooms, but Inspirations in Edmond, OK must be shared. People, it is without a doubt, the BEST tea room I have ever dined in. Inspirations is attached to Two Hearts Inn, a charming B&B. The minute you enter Inspirations Tea Room, you feel welcomed and settle into the warm atmosphere. With a large space, Inspirations offers different rooms that can accomodate events, special occasions and makes the perfect setting for a shower. I was seated in the Main Tea Room (have sat in the Sunroom and Twenttea in the past) at a small two-seater table. I asked to switch to a table in the corner since their was a glaring light coming from the window, and the waitress was quick to accomodate me. The rooms and tables are always spotless when I visit, and this day was no exception. I placed my linen napkin in my lap and ordered the hot Chocolate Mint tea. As I looked over the menu, the waitress brought the standard heart-shaped scone with lemon curd in a tiny ceramic cup. Oh, I couldn't wait to bite into this mixed berry scone...delicious! However, I waited until my tea pot arrived (allow five minutes of brewing time), and my sweet waitress filled the black toile patterned cup with aromatic tea. I felt like a lady, a Queen being pampered! I placed my order for the Trio which consists of an entre, salad or soup, dessert and tea all for a mere $13.95...and quite possible better than any restaurant you could dine for lunch. It wasn't long before my plate was placed before me. I had finished my delectable scone and ready to dive right in. I placed the piping hot Tortilla Soup to the side for cooling. Each plate is decorated with a flower and a scripture to read and hopefully ponder...mine read,

"Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, is excellent or praisworthy, think about these things." Philippians 4:8

I placed to the side along with my flower. I drizzled the raspberry dressing on my Cherry Pear Spinach Salad. Mmmm...tart cherries, spinach leaves, feta cheese, toasted pecans, pears. I also had a sliced canteloupe to munch on as well as cubed cheeses and cherry tomatoes on the side. After polishing off the salad, I retrieved my soup and was pleased to see this small bowl was filled with shredded chicken, corn, tomatoes, and I had tortilla chips to dip in this cheesy delight. Talk about comfort food...this was it! Now, with all that food, you would think I couldn't possibly have room for dessert. You thought wrong! I ordered the Mixed Fruit Pie which came out warm and piped with little starbursts of whipped cream along the crust. The crust was flaky and delish. The fruit mixed with a nice sauce dazzled my taste buds. I kept re-filling my cup with Chocolate Mint Tea until the teapot was almost empty. When finished dining, you can walk around their gift area which sells teapots, teas, jewelry and small gifts. I left feeling more than satisfied, as I always do when visiting this delightful tea room. Inspirations Tea Room is quite simply perfection, and I adore this place! I encourage you to browse their website.

Thunder Prairie Baking Company

I was excited to visit Thunder Prairie Baking Company after reading about it online. As a matter of fact, it was my one bakery I had actually noted in my planner to visit when in OKC. European style? I'm there! So, this morning I made my way to Midtown in OKC to the Plaza Court Building off of 10th Street on Classen. Another brick warehouse building housing several different places, I drove up to the front of Thunder Prairie. I could hardly wait to see for myself if this bakery was indeed what their website described. I stepped into the cafe and smiled as I recognized the antique brass floor lamps from the online pictures. The wooden bakery cases told you that you were in for a real "treat" for sure. One case displayed cookies, brownies, pastries of different sorts. The other display revealed a large Red Velvet Cake and jumbo Red Velvet Cake Balls which made me ask myself if it really was too early in the morning to enjoy a slice of cake. I had to remind myself that my intent was to try the Chocolate Croissant, so I stuck with my original plan and tacked on a Chocolate Chip Cookie to my order as well as a Mocha. I took my plate of goodies and sat at the nearest table that offered me the best view of this cafe. I wanted to take it all in. Old music played softly overhead which I love for a cafe. I got up to retrieve my coffee and was impressed with the cinnamon swirl on top...nice touch! While the cafe felt new and clean, Thunder Prairie stayed true to the old cafe feel. I watched as a customer walked in and grabbed a fresh baguette from the basket which was setting between the counters on a display. Other breads were displayed in baskets behind the counter with labels tempting you to buy each one. How can one pass up fresh breads? Above the counter were three chalkboard menues...Breakfast, Sandwiches, Salads. I studied them and thought, what a wonderful place to stop in for lunch. But, it was morning, and I had a croissant in front of me waiting to be tasted. The crust was flaky and had a nice powdered sugar coat, the center oozed with chocolate? Now, I believe I know where the best croissants are (a Texas spot I'll soon share), so no other croissant can measure up. However, TPBC's spin on the flaky pastry was satisfying. I sipped my mocha and found it to be average. Certainly not a place I would visit just for the lattes. The cookie was fresh, soft full of chocolate chips - yummy! The feel of the place and the menu boards would certainly get me to visit again. And, the fact that everything is made fresh daily is reason enough to frequent this artisan bakery. Also, handmade signs were posted at the door that gave specials to those in the Legal profession would receive 30% off their order on Tuesdays and Wednesdays were "Scrub Day" (those in the medical profession, in case you missed that one). Now that's community, and I give a thumbs up to TPBC for this! Also, if you're not like me and don't carry a book with you, there are newspapers, magazines and books available by the front door. I'm glad I discovered Thunder Prairie Baking Company, and I look forward to having lunch there on my next OKC visit.

CocoFlow

After doing a search online for a good coffee house in OKC, I came across CocoFlow. The name says is all...flowing in chocolate! This gem of a find is located in Bricktown, Oklahoma City's hot spot for entertainment. I drove by the outside and asked myself, is this really it? It doesn't look like much on the exterior other than an old brick warehouse with a neon red light shining CocoFlow. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough change on me to put in the meter, so I had to settle for a 30 minute parking space. I thought that would be ample time for me to check this spot out...have a quick latte and be on my way. I realized what a mistake that quick parking was the minute I opened the door to CocoFlow. Talk about your diamond in the rough...was like opening the door to Oz without the yellow brick road. The aroma picked me up off my feet, and I dreamily floated toward the lit counter which sheltered such pretty chocolates. Okay, no I didn't, but that is how I recall it. Instead, I was greeted by three military women standing around the counter waiting on their coffees. I, of course, walked over to the chocolate display case with my mind spinning...think sugar plums dancing in my head. No, it did not bring out the child in me. This place was far too mature and played to my adult side that loves to break out of her shell. The owner was busy heating a tortilla on a grill, so I browsed the chocolates. One of the CocoFlow fans dressed in her fatigues came over and introduced me to every chocolate in the case. I swore she was an employee by her chocolate sense, but she corrected me by saying she was simply a fan. Well, I was certainly grateful for her suggestions. I ordered a White Mocha, a Chocolate Biscotti and a Salty Dog Chocolate Praline. The owner put my treats on a plate and handed over a mug that revealed leaf art on top of my latte. Impressive! I made my way through an entry and into a very large room on the adjacent side where small coffee house tables were neatly placed along both sides as well as two fabric high back chairs along the left side. The walls were decked out with great pieces of art. I sat myself at one of the tables painted with a gerber daisy. I took one sip of my mocha and let out a sigh...ahhhh, this is the life! Not too overdone, the sweetness factor was right on. And if you want to know what smooth tastes like, go have yourself a taste of this sumptuous drink. I didn't know how it could have been any better until I dipped my biscotti into the drink and crunched into the perfectly created treat. Did I die and go to Heaven? I looked around the big open space...a very warehouse feel with concrete floors, an elevator, old doors, even a big garage door painted black. Above me was the typical open loft look with exposed pipes painted black. And my absolute favorite part of the decor? The windows that exposed part of the adjoining room where all the goodies were. Black and white fabric curtains were drawn back and I could see small chalk boards in two rows lined the yellow wall with each labeled with a day of the week. A clever way to keep organized, I'm sure. I was too busy absorbing my surroundings to read or journal. All I could do was sip, bite, and look in awe. So thankful that my angels led me to this slice of Heaven on Earth, I decided that even though my stomach was full, I had to take one bite out the Salty Dog to enjoy with my last sip of mocha. I didn't know chocolate could taste so good. Are you kidding me? Mars Inc. has been lying to us all this time about how chocolate should taste. Pricey, yes. Premium, yes. Worth every penny? Absolutely! The caramel ganache on the inside combined with the sea salt sprinkeled chocolate sent my taste buds into overdrive. But, I had the sense to halt a second bite and ask for the remaining to be bagged for enjoying later in the day. I was beyond disappointed that my 30 minutes had ticked away. I returned to the counter to pay for my indulgence and was told that they were working on opening the upstairs for events as well as to use of their classes. Now, what a great business move on the owner's part...sure to draw in many bookings. As I was leaving, I noticed to my right a table with a big glass dispenser full of fruit infused water along with some cups. This place has gone the distance from the water to the chocolates. Thank you, CocoFlow, for allowing me to experience this Utopia! I look forward to my next visit!

Cuppies and Joe

One of my favorite movies is The Love Letter set in a charming little town of Loblolly-by-the-Sea in New England. Every time I watch it, I imagine myself right there in the bookstore sharing a latte with Kate Capshaw's character. Let me tell you, I have found a little cupcake cafe that gives me the same charmed feeling. Cuppies and Joe in Oklahoma City is tucked away on 23rd Street in a small, renovated house that has plenty of charm and a welcoming spirit. There is outdoor seating on a roomy front deck. But how can one pass up the essence of the indoors? A pleasant bell rings as you open the front door of this old house. The front room has a comfy sofa and some chairs situated in a conversational layout as you walk through to make your way to the bakery counter. I love this! The fact that you walk into another room to order makes this place all the more inviting. And it's not your typical dessert case...this case looks like it jumped right from the pages of Country Living Magazine and is topped with their framed award of being voted the best dessert, bakery and cupcakes in OKC next to a glass cake dome with a few delish cupcakes. On the other side is a crocheted cupcake that just adds that vintage flavor to your ordering experience. A wonderful selection of cupcakes with unique names such as, Sass-a-frass, Lemony Snicket, Sammy G (this one has a history behind it which you are encouraged to ask about) await you. I chose The Traveler. The pleasant Cupcake Counter Gal pops it into the microwave as I order a Chai Tea Latte...did I fail to mention this is also a coffee house? The ladies are all dressed in retro-vintage dresses, adding great personality to your ordering experience. I grabbed my cuppie and joe and sat at a rustic red vintage table. This table offered me a view of the lovely cupcake display case. Great classic music played in the background reminding me once again of my movie...think "I'm In The Mood For Love". My cupcake was served on a plate with a fork, napkins were  by the serve yourself coffee station (for regular coffee-lovers). Local artists provided their framed photographs that looked French-inspired with a price tag next to each on the walls. I dove right in with my fork pressing through the brownie textured cupcake that was topped with chocolate buttercream frosting. I was pleasantly surprised to discover a gooey chocolate center. I could not put my fork down until every bit of the cupcake was devoured, and I'm ashamed to admit scraping the liner with my fork to grab the last of the crumbs. It certainly left me satisfied, and I enjoyed every bite! But, the real "icing on the cake" was the fabulous Chai Latte served in a big vintage mug. Oh. My. Gosh. It was divine, and I would certainly bypass any coffee joint along the way just to enjoy another Chai Latte at Cuppies and Joe. I was able to sit and enjoy my book, watch other customers' excited expressions as they placed their orders. And I just enjoyed looking around, taking in the pleasantries which surrounded me. You are asked to bus your own tables, and I found that every customer abided by this rule, as did I, putting my dishes in the bin...not minding one bit! If you find yourself in OKC, be sure to make your way to Cuppies and Joe.

Patty Cakes

Having driven by Patty Cakes a number of times while going through downtown Grapevine, I decided today would be the day I actually stop in. Although I didn't have much of a sweet tooth, curiosity got the best of me. I opened the door to reveal the mystery of Patty Cakes...a fairly roomy bakery with dessert cases showing off their creations of cupcakes, cookies, cake balls, chocolates. To the left of me were book cases lined with cookbooks and what looked to be Tootsie Pop bouquets blooming in flower pots. The bakery was inviting, and I was greeted by the owner who described the flavors of beautiful cupcakes before me. I chose the standard vanilla cupcake with vanilla frosting and sprinkled with little white beads which I guessed to be candy, perhaps chocolate. The cupcake looked almost shabby chic, and I was looking for something more traditional in a treat today. I was served this cake topped with a Dairy Queen-style swirl of icing and directed toward the small caddy that offered forks and napkins...kudos to you, Patty Cakes, for thinking of this! There were a couple of large high-top tables, two smaller settees facing one another divided by a small table. I opted for the small wrought iron bistro set with a glass table top. My cupcake looked too pretty to eat, but that didn't stop me from sinking my fork into the thick icing and toward the cake liner scooping up a rather large first bite. The cupcake, just like the feel of the bakery, felt familiar...homey. The icing was a bit too thick for me, very sweet, so I scrapped some off to the side. The cake tasted homemade for sure (and I was told the recipe belonged to the owner's grandmother). Yes, I could imagine being in Grandma's kitchen with a glass of milk and fresh out of the oven cupcakes. The cupcake was neither too dry nor too moist and quite dense. It was definately different. The best part was on top, and I was informed the little candy-like beads are called Crisp Pearls and come from Belgium. Let me tell you, these little pearls of delight gave character to this cupcake. I found myself pulling every little pearl out of the frosting I had smeared to the side. I was determined to eat every last one. I can say that when finished, I was happy I stopped in. Patty Cakes is a nice addition to Historic Downtown Grapevine. I just hope they add some coffee or hot tea to their menu soon. It's definately a spot I could hang out for a bit with a book if it's not crowded. I look forward to trying out their other sweets.

The Pearl Cup

I have read all the rave reviews on The Pearl Cup Espresso Bar in Dallas, and I'm happy to say that I get to write my own rave review now that I have visited the place that has been voted "Best Coffee in Dallas". Located on Henderson, this little jewel has outdoor seating (for those of you who want to invite your canine friends). Being that it is summer, I opted for the indoor seating...right at the bar. The Pearl Cup defines cool with its nouveau lounge feel, orange countertop with white leather barstools and round globe lights hanging down. The crowd I mixed with on this particular afternoon was artsy, serious-minded about their coffee as well as their laptops. I was the loner walking in with old-fashioned books tucked under my arm. I feared taking a table away from one who has a laptop, so I sat myself at the orange counter where I was greeted by a barista who suggested I try the Signature Pearl Cup Latte, their most popular drink. Well, one taste of this beauty and I knew why it was the choice coffee. I took another sip; it was near perfection! Starbucks who? I have never tasted a latte as delicious and flavorful as the Signature Pearl Cup. I admit that my sweet tooth was whispering, hmmm, this may need a little sweetener. Yet, I couldn't bring myself to add anything to a drink as close to perfection as this for fear of ruining the secret success. My barista was engaging, answering all of my questions. The machines behind the counter were serious and told you this place means business when it comes to coffee! I loved the concrete floor which blende nicely with the partial brick wall doned with pictures. Windows finished out the room allowing plenty of natural light in. The Pearl Cup is definately for the coffee connoisseur, and I highly recommend you visit!

Tart Bakery

For a gal like me who loves bakeries, Tart is THE place to be! As you can see in my picture above, it is colorful, whimsical and just plan happy. The case is filled with every type of pastry I could possibly wish for. I settle on the Red Velvet cupcake and the Chocolate Crackle cookie. It was a hard decision to make passing up all the other treats perfectly displayed. In the past, Tart had a small table for two in front of their window. This has been replaced by two larger tables that seat four at a table. Smart move! Tart is way too cute to just get your treats to go. Instead, I opt to sit at a table and enjoy my cupcake. Another star for Tart is the fact that they offer fork and napkins so that I'm not stuck licking my fingers. Now, I like my cupcakes to be on the moist side (just a personal preference); my Red Velvet was a little too dry for my liking, but still enjoyable especially with the oh-so-dreamy frosting. You can browse around their little boutique at some of the cute items they have for sale such as cake plates and birthday items. If I had guests in town, I would certainly treat them to Tart Bakery...little girls would be in heaven! The apothecary jars filled with candy make the child within come out to play. The Chocolate Crackle cookie was moist and then some. I had to slow myself down to actually enjoy every bite. This chocolate cookie sprinkled with powdered sugar was well worth the trip to Dallas. I would order a dozen and give away as gifts...sure to make me your new best friend! And the staff? They were welcoming, and obliged my request for a photo op. I only wish I had had more time to soak it all in. Thanks Tart Bakery for making me smile!
